The PBL game on May 5th is an away game. We will play Peotone at 12:00 and PBL at 2:00. Please make this change on your calendars. Thanks
Jordyn Schultz had a huge game last night for the Falcons. He capped off a 7 run 6th inning with an inside the park Grand Slam. That moved him to 6 rbi on the night to go with his 3 hits. Seven of the 9 Falcons in the batting order recorded hits last night. Zach Kirby pitched 5 innings, giving up 6 runs and striking out 6. Axel Doran and Adam Puls eached recorded a scoreless inning in relief last night as well. Overall, GCMS came away with the 13-
The Falcons battled back from a 5 run deficit, and eventually took the lead against Lexington. The effort got spoiled in the bottom of the 7th with a couple of hits from the Minutemen. The Falcons played hard and showed signs of life late, but couldn't get the door closed on a pesky Lexington team.
The Falcons played well at times this weekend, but couldn't find enough runs to come out with a victory. A hard fought game at Monticello Friday night handed the Falcons a 4-7 defeat. Monticello scored 6 runs in one inning, and then went to their ace to shut down the Falcons in the final frames. GCMS played hard and battled back, but couldn't scratch out enough hits to gain the victory.
On Sat. GCMS played host to Tuscola and Prairie Central. Axel Doran pitched well in the first game against a good Tuscola team, but the defense behind him allowed a few too many unearned runs. In the second game against P.C. Seth Kirby pitched magnificently for 7 innings. GCMS came from behind twice during the game to not only take the lead, but they tie it up again in the 7th before ulitimately surrending in the 8th inning. Overall, lots of positive can be taken away from the weekend. A few less errors and some better timely hitting, and this weekend could have looked a whole lot better. The Varsity baseball team will be playing a split double-header on March 31st. The first game will be at 10:00 against Tuscola, and then we will play again at 2:00 against Prairie Central. Hope to see you all there.
Pitching and defense wins games and that was true tonight. Zach Kirby got his 2nd win of the year striking out 7 and only giving up 1 hit in 5 plus innings. Chris Witteman, Gabe Kerber, and Jordyn Schultz provided 2 hits apiece to pace the Falcon offense. GCMS scored 7 times in the 5th inning, which was enough to beat the Hoopeston Area Cornjerkers 7-3.
Errors, Errors, Errors. 7 of them for the Falcons ultimately lead to a lopsided 1-11 score. Jake Johnson and Axel Doran both pitched well, but inexperience on the defensive side cost the Falcons last night. A few days of practice and that should be cleared up and get GCMS back on the winning path.
First win last night for the Falcons, a 7-5 victory over Donovan. Zach Kirby gets the win going 4 2/3 striking out 10 and walking 3. 10 hits for the Falcons last night, including 2 by Chris Witteman and a triple by Cameron Redeker. The Falcons looked pretty good in their first game of the year. GCMS will host Bloomington Central Catholic tonight at 4:30 at Falcon Field.
I am looking for a catchy name for the High School baseball field. I would love to hear any suggestions that you have. The baseball parent meeting will be held on Thursday, March 8th at 6:00 in the GCMS commons. The meeting should last roughly 20 min. Thanks, and I hope to see you there.
Baseball practice will begin after school on Feb. 27th. There will be an informational meeting for all players on Feb. 23rd.
